On Monday
April 15, 2013 I had the pleasure in accompanying Dani Polsom (Arizona'sVoice), to the Alberta Legislature along with her family and friends. What an
amazing group of people...
Monday April 15th was actually my first time meeting Dani, and yet I felt a strong bond with her and also protective in a mothering kind of way. I was so proud of her as she took the podium and faced the media and their barrage of questions. That was a big moment for Dani and her family. Mum was standing there supporting her and also sharing her feelings. Victims of abuse have their own thoughts and nightmares to deal with but we mustn't forget the impact it has on our partners, family and friends.
The small
group of determined family and friends that stood behind Dani, encouraged and
supported her every step of the way. They believed her, believe in her, and
obviously love her very much. That small group of people I'd want in my corner.
All the hard work and determination paid off…the result was? Dani no
longer has to hide behind a veil of secrecy, and is free to publicly reveal who
she is and tell her story. I feel honoured that I was there to witness all that
and what courage really looks like. Great job!
Dani you
are a beautiful person, both inside and out and are an inspiration to others.
You are a true survivor!
